A late season tropical storm has formed in the southwestern Caribbean Sea and it is named Ida. The storm may flirt with hurricane strength, but should remain just shy of that threshold over the next few days. Areas most likely to be impacted in the short term include Nicaragua, Honduras, and the Yucatan Peninsula. By the start of next week, there is a chance Ida may enter the southern Gulf of Mexico as a weak tropical storm.
Hurricane season does not technically end until November 30th in the Atlantic basin. Check back for updates on this system over the next day or two.
