Storms associated with Tropical Depression Ida began to leave their mark on coastal Virginia Wednesday afternoon. Sailboats moored in the James River were bobbing as a visible "chop" on the river made it a less than pleasant day for recreational activities.
In addition to gusty winds and rough surf, the National Weather Service also warns that localized flooding is possible because of heavy rain expected through Friday evening.
In Norfolk, officials say floodgates at Nauticus, Waterside and Brook Streets have all been closed as they prepare for the coming storm.
