With another round of double digit snowfall totals forecast for this weekend many people are headed to the grocery stores once again. But this go around don't forget about preparing for a power outage.

Mary Clark, Operations Manager for Dominion Power says, "We have a tried and true restoration process that we have utilized and is proven to work well for us. So we are following the process with consideration of the differences in the weather." With slightly warmer temperatures forecast this snow should be wetter and heavier than December, probably resulting in more down trees and more down power lines. Clark says. "We have folks prepared to be staged in the areas where we anticipate the most trouble, crews from other areas that may be less affected."

In the event that you do lose power, make sure you are prepared. Paige Mattson, owner of Blue Ridge Eco Shop says, "Most people pull out a flashlight a couple times a year and suddenly they find out their batteries don't work. So having a shaker flashlight or windup flashlight, you don't have to work about batteries they are always ready to go."

And of course the old stand by, candles. But some candles are better suited for the storm than others. Mattson says, "Beeswax candles as opposed to paraffin candles. Not only are they more environmentally friendly, not petroleum based, but beeswax candles have twice as long of a lifetime. So the actually candle will last longer which is important if you do run out of power."

Officials with Dominion Power say if your power does go out don't assume that your neighbor has already called. Just call them at 1-888-667-3000 to report your specific outage.
