One item in hot demand in the snowy weather is the shovel.
People packed Martin's Hardware store in Charlottesville to get their hands on a new supply of shovels.
The store sold out a couple days ago, but they received 1,000 more shovels Friday. By 11 a.m., the supply had whittled down to just 60 as the line extended to the back of the store.
"I need a shovel to make sure [my roommate] is OK. My roommate thinks we need to have a shovel," shopper Sarah Thaden said.
"That's true -- I grew up in Northern Virginia, so I know how they deal with the snowstorm," the roommate, Marissa Flavin, said.
Some said their shovels had been stolen and they needed new ones, while others said their old ones broke under the stress of the last storm.
