CHS Students Brave Streets, Avoid Unshoveled Sidewalks

February 11, 2010

Sidewalks in the neighborhoods around Charlottesville High School are still covered in snow, making the trek difficult for students.

Some students said walking in the street was easier than walking in the sidewalk.

Many people exercising and walking their dogs found the sidewalks to be difficult, as well. One of the main problems is the snow is piling up on the sidewalk entrance ramps, forcing people to climb the mound in order to stay out of the street.

"The roads are really clear, so I'm just walking in them," student Selima Dougadir said. "There are very few places where the sidewalks are cleared completely. And I'm not really into trudging through the snow and having wet socks."

One neighbor said some of the residents are retired, and it might be difficult for them to shovel their sidewalks.
