The U.S. Department of Energy says Virginia is getting nearly $2 million to expand weatherization training.
The agency says the grant announced Friday is one of 34 projects splitting $29 million in federal stimulus funds in 27 states. The aim is to train more workers to make homes and businesses more energy efficient.
Community Housing Partners in Christiansburg and the Green Jobs Alliance in Hampton will receive funding.
The Christiansburg project will focus on comprehensive, technology-enabled information for 10 weatherization classes. The training will also be available for distance learning to help standardize training across the Virginia.
In Hampton, the funding will be used to provide local comprehensive training for weatherization education and energy efficiency careers.
