Fluvanna Home Damaged in Storm, Family Displaced

August 22, 2011

A Fluvanna County family has been displaced from their home after strong storms Sunday night caused a tree to fall on their house.

No one was in the Lake Monticello home at the time, however owner Virginia Porter tells CBS19 she was shocked by the extensive damage.

"Oh my gosh! I just wasn't prepared. The limbs on the tree were hanging over the stairs and I just wasn't prepared. I was shocked," Porter explained.

Porter says there's water on the main floor and in the basement. There are also holes in the ceiling above the bedrooms. She says a tree removal service took the tree off the house, and their next step is to have a contractor assess the damages.

Insurance companies say they should be able to begin the repairs process this week.
