Central Virginia is yet to see a flake of snow, but that has not stopped ski and snowboard lovers from taking to the slopes at the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre.
“It's neat to come here when it's 60 or 70 degrees outside and then ski,” said Brandon Frees.
The synthetic ski slope features the most innovative technology in the snow sports industry. The Snowflex material, originating in Europe, is made to feel like snow and made its debut in the United States at Liberty's year-round facility.
“It's grippy enough to ski and snowboard on but slick enough to slide on, too,” said operations manager, Will Scheren.
Scheren and instructor Matty Hartman are willing to bet that once you grab your board and strap on your boots, you won't even notice the difference.
“The difference between snow and here... it's actually not a big difference. You kind of have to think of it as spring skiing,” said Hartman.
No matter your winter sports level, Liberty Mountain Snowflex is a place to enjoy snow despite the weather. So, for those skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts who can't wait another minute for snow, there's now a place to can get your fix all year long.
