Morning Fog Strands Central Virginia Travelers

January 19, 2011

Air travelers were left stranded Wednesday morning at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport due to a dense layer of fog that covered Central Virginia.

Two early morning flights to Charlotte were canceled because of low visibility and flights taking off after 6am were delayed one to three hours.

The 1/2 mile visibility made it too dangerous for planes to take off from or land on the CHO runway.

"It's frustrating and stressful because I don't know what awaits me when I am late, so this is probably going to be a very long day of travel. It could have taken me three hours in total," said stranded traveler, Toby Gonias.

Planes were finally back on schedule around 11am.
