Dominion Power crews closed down a section of Jefferson Park Avenue for most of the day piecing everything back together to slowly but surely give their customers heat and electricity.
They closed from Shamrock Road to Valley Street on JPA going towards Emmet Street. Crews were working right in front of Second-year UVa student, Laura Angoe's house near Valley Street.
The cause of most of the outages? The tree right in her front yard - and she watched it all happen at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.
"I was awoken by this noise, I look out my window and I see a tree falling and a bunch of snow going up in the air from where it hit," Angoe said. "At that point it was hard to see because it was dark outside and snowy but I could see that some of it had landed on my car and the majority of it was behind all five cars here blocking us in."
At 7 p.m. her house still didn't have power even after crews left for the day. It has been more than 40 hours.
"The funny thing is that I didn't think it would happen. I said I don't think it's gonna happen in Charlottesville and we got the worst of it," Angoe said."
She said Dominion crews were able to move all of the branches and limbs off of her car but wanted to make sure she could still get out.
"I wanna get my car out because I just don't want anything worse to happen. And now I have to call insurance to hopefully get it all fixed up. It's still just messy."
She says she never realized how much she relied on power and electricity, especially during midterm exam week at UVa.
But one thing is for sure, Angoe says she is even more excited to get home for spring break.
