City workers in Charlottesville monitored the roadways as the snow began to fall Sunday afternoon. The city has seen about 2 to 3 inches of snow so far.
Snow completely covered streets and vehicles. Charlottesville and Albemarle County crews have been working for the last two days trying to prepare for this winter storm.
City officials say the efforts are paying off.
"We always work our primary roads first and then we get to the secondary. The primaries at this point are doing pretty well," said city spokesman Ric Barrick. "Secondaries are slush-covered, and as the temperature drops tonight, we hope to take care of those with further treatments. But right now the city streets are doing pretty well."
City officials are asking people to stay off the roads.
