The Science of Sunrise

There were some really stunning photos out of the 31 that were submitted in the photo contest in Scottsville from age groups in the single digits to the 60s and 70s. Sunrise today was at 6:40 a.m. giving us just over 13 hours of daylight. The days are getting shorter and shorter as summer reaches the end, but that doesn't mean you can’t enjoy a great sunrise.

"Our goal was to savor the beauty that's all around us in the greater Scottsville area and share that with others. We were really excited with what we found" comments Dan Satterfield, who ran the contest.

The winning photo was taken during a different season....

"I was leaving the house early one morning to go to the chickens, and just turned around and went back in and got my camera; made the chickens wait because the sun was coming so low across the trees. Everything was gold," comments Ruth “Tutz” Klippstein, the winner of the contest.

"You can see them all around the world and the question is do you take the time to enjoy it and that's really fun for me because I’ve really learned to appreciate it here, right here in Scottsville," mentions Satterfield

This contest was the first of It's kind and next year will likely showcase the sunset. Ruth Klippstein told me she is donating her hundred dollar winnings to the local boys and girls club.
