The National Weather Service has confirmed that a relatively weak tornado touched down in rural Mathews County on Friday.
WWBT-TV reports that the National Weather Service's official report ranks the twister as an EF-0 with winds between 70 and 80 miles per hour.
No one was injured when high winds and rain swept through the county ahead of a cold front.
The tornado damaged two mobile home trailers and left a boathouse in shambles. Powerful winds also knocked down power lines and pine trees were sheared off.
